Gems Sensors Expands Space Dedicated to Medical Devices

Officials say the company's medtech business has grown steadily.

Gems Sensors & Controls is opening a 4,000-square-foot medical processing area at its headquarters in Plainville, Conn.

The company—a manufacturer of customized, application-engineered sensors, controls, solenoid valves and subassemblies—completed expansion in October 2011, adding 20,000 square feet of manufacturing space to the facility.

The new addition will allow the company to improve manufacturing layouts providing better material/product workflow to address the specific needs of customers in the medical industry and safer working areas for employees, company officials reported. The additional space also will allow Gems to expand it’s workforce as sales continue to grow.

Gems has served the medical industry for more than 20 years providing ISO 13485-certified products for the specialized fluid control and handling requirements of the medical device, diagnostic, life-science, and biotechnology market segments.

“We are very pleased with the new addition to our manufacturing facility” says Patrick Murphy, vice president and general manager for Gems Sensors & Controls, North America. “The additional space will allow us to continue to grow our product offering and serve the unique needs of our customers around the world. I am particularly excited about the addition of a dedicated processing area to accommodate the exacting requirements of our customers in the medical industry”.

Founded in 1955, the company has facilities in North America, Europe and Asia.
